During a recent long weekend, I went to meet my boyfriend’s family who live on a farm. He had told me that his family were warm-hearted and kind and I was very excited to go meet them. I come from an emotionally cold and heartless home, so I wanted to see how the other half lives.

I was overwhelmed by their generosity and how they welcomed a stranger into their home. They went out of their way to make me feel like part of the family. Being with such warm and emotionally open people was heaven on earth.

The problem is that this experience only showed me what I had missed all these years, and I came back with such sad and angry feelings towards my parents and siblings, who’ve never even tried to love me and make me feel cherished.
