Cape Town - Selena Gomez has been keeping a pretty low profile recently – except for the occasional Instagram post updating fans about a new project or her recent Coachella appearance.

This week, the pop star sat down for her first interview in a while, opening up about her relationship with social media and her celebrity image, Glamour reports.

The 26-year-old spoke on American fashion house Coach’s new Dream It Real podcast and got candid about going to therapy and why she doesn’t want to be called pretty, Cosmopolitan reports.

"I don’t really appreciate people judging me on my looks or anything like that. I’m flattered when maybe guys are like, 'You’re pretty.' I am, but it’s just that I would just love someone to love me for the person that I am," she said.

Selena revealed she feels that too much Instagram can be unhealthy.

"It’s not that healthy to be on it all the time because I noticed, with me, I got kind of depressed looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing, and it would just get me down a lot, so I just think taking breaks is really important," she added.

The Wolves singer said she maintains a healthy mindset by surrounding herself with good friends and limiting the amount of time she spends on social media, reports USA Today.

"I think that sometimes people are exposed to too much, and you should really protect what you’re seeing and be mindful, be really mindful of how it makes you feel."

The star also said she has new music coming out but didn’t specify when.

"I just wanted it to be me, all me. Every song is a story I’ve experienced," she shared.

"To that point, I think there’s no one who’s going to tell my story better than myself. I just really wanted to kind of just live with my story a bit and create it into something that means a lot to me."
