Helen Zille sits on the Iron Throne

Johannesburg – Game of Thrones fans, you too can now sit on the Iron Throne.

Thanks to M-Net and Outsurance the real Iron Throne arrived in South Africa last week.

It made its first appearance at the Loeries this weekend and the queen of Cape Town, premier Helen Zille, wasted no time taking her seat on the throne.

This photo of her taken at the Loeries is doing the rounds on social media.

This week the Iron Throne will be at Sandton City in Johannesburg, where the Idols Season 10 contestants as well as other familiar M-Net, Mzansi Magic and VUZU faces will take their turn.

Game of Thrones fans will also be able to take their own pictures from Wednesday 24 September until Sunday 28 September.

M-Net's Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard says: "Having the real Iron Throne here all the way from Hollywood is quite a feat for M-Net – and off course a special treat for all fans of the series. We're thrilled that HBO agreed to send the real McCoy all the way to South Africa."

In future, Game of Thrones, as well as other bold, highly-acclaimed series will be screened on the brand new M-Net channel M-Net Edge. The two new channels will be launched in October.
