As loadshedding continues rolling out blackouts across the nation, here’s how you can make the most of a night in with your family without letting a little bit of darkness dampen your evening.

M-Net will be presenting a range of curated, exciting, and popular movies and series for the month of August all in the comfort of your home. And setting up the idyllic and powered-up viewing environment to enjoy the entertainment takes a few quick and easy steps.

All you need are some blankets and snacks, a reliable charged-up device, a connection to the internet and DStv Stream and you're ready to go.

Movies coming to M-Net this August

For the Sunday night movie fans, you get to look forward to the following hits:

  • Shotgun Wedding (6 August 2023 at 20:05) Starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel, find out what happens when criminals hijack a lavish destination wedding as our leading pair fight for their lives, families, and relationship in this action comedy.
  • Detective Knight: Redemption (13 August at 20:05) This action flick follows the disgraced detective James Knight, played by Bruce Willis. Caught in a jailbreak led by The Christmas Bomber, it follows his journey as he goes on a quest to take out the terrorists and redeem his name.  
  • M3gan (20 August at 20:05) Fusing AI and horror into a futuristic Chucky-esque experience, this sci-fi horror follows the story of a robotics engineer at a toy company who builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own. 
  • Black Adam (27 August at 20:05) Starring The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, this action-packed superhero journey is the age-old tale of an ancient anti-hero. Black Adam is freed, after 5 000 years since being given the powers of the gods and starts unleashing his unique form of justice on the people holding his hometown under control.
Shows and Series coming to M-Net this August

But beyond just blockbuster action, M-Net is also bringing a host of exciting new series, doccies, and boxsets to add to your August evenings – namely:

  • NCIS Hawaii S2 (Wednesday 2 August at 7pm) – In this popular procedural, the NCIS team balance duty to family and country, investigating high-stakes crimes and the mysteries of the island itself. In the sizzling season premiere, the team gets a  warning that Maxwell is headed to the island. But they learn that Maxwell was already on the island and is planning an attack. Watch the trailer here
  • Poker Face S1 (Wednesday, 2 August at 9pm) – Loved Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black’s Natasha Lyonne? Then, make a TV date for her new comedic thriller Poker Face. Lyonne plays Charlie Cale, a casino worker with an extraordinary ability to detect lies. After a close friend is murdered, she goes on the run across the United States, meeting colourful characters and solving strange crimes along the way. Watch the trailer here
  • Moonage Daydream (Thursday 3 August at 10pm) - A musical documentary exploring David Bowie's creative and musical journey. From visionary filmmaker Brett Morgen and sanctioned by the Bowie estate.
  • Based on a True Story (Monday, 7 August at 8pm – double billed) - This comedic thriller is from the Emmy Award-nominated producer of The Boys and the Exec Producer of Ozark, and stars Emmy Nominee Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant, Big Bang Theory). The series centres around a realtor, a former tennis star, and a plumber who seizes a unique opportunity to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime. Watch the trailer here
  • Outlander S7 (Tuesday, 8 August at 10pm) - A thrilling premiere. Jamie arrives in Wilmington to discover the town in chaos after rebels stormed a nearby British Fort. Claire finds herself whisked away to treat an important patient. Watch the trailer here
  • World on Fire S2 (Wednesday, 9 August at 10pm) - In this riveting premiere, Harry has a second chance at saving Kasia from Warsaw. In Manchester, could Lois be set for happiness at last? 
  • Britain’s Got Talent S16 (Saturday, 12 August at 7pm) - Britain's loved variety talent show returns for its incredible 16th season. Brand new judge Bruno Tonioli joins the panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon. Watch the trailer here
  • Get me to 21: The Jenna Lowe story (Saturday, 12 August at 20:30) - A moving, inspiring, and informative documentary about Gabi Lowe and her family's four-year battle to save their terminally ill daughter, Jenna.
  • The Diplomat S1 (Thursday, 17 August at 9pm) – A gritty British drama that follows Laura Simmonds, played by Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders), and her Barcelona Consul colleague Alba Ortiz as they fight to protect British nationals who find themselves in trouble in the Catalan city. Watch the trailer here
  • Nancy Drew S4 (Friday, 18 August at 9pm) – In the season premiere, Nancy launches a new investigation to find a group of missing bodies from Horseshoe Bay's cemetery that have been dug up and stolen - or have possibly risen.
  • How to John Wilson S3 (Friday, 18 August at 10pm) - The third and final season of the comedic documentary series. John continues his heartfelt mission of self-discovery, exploration, and observation while attempting to give everyday advice on six new deceptively simple and wildly random topics. Watch the trailer here
  • Walker S3 (Saturday, 19 August at 20:15 – double billed) – A drama that follows the adventures of Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code. In the gripping premiere, its graduation day, and the Walker family is turning a corner into a seemingly hopeful future until Cordell goes missing.
  • Angel City (Sunday, 20 August at 6pm) – A captivating HBO docuseries that goes behind the scenes and onto the pitch of the ground-breaking Los Angeles-based professional women's soccer team, Angel City Football Club. Watch the trailer here
  • Heels S2 (Monday, 28 August at 10pm) - It's time to get back into the ring with Heels season 2 as the rivalry between brothers Jack and Ace Spade continues. Jack prepares for a big business deal, but the past and its tragedies may upset everything…
