South Africa's favourite festive franchise, How To Ruin Christmas, creators, Burnt Onion Productions, are back with an all-new "hilarious" offering launching on Netflix next month.
In the young adult series titled Miseducation, Mbali Hadebe (played by Buntu Petse) finds herself on the cancelled list after police raid her home and seize her family's assets because of her mother Brenda Hadebe's (played by Baby Cele) corrupt political dealings. Embarrassed and with her tail between her legs, Mbali runs away to Grahamstown University in Makhanda to reinvent herself and escape her mother's corrupt legacy.
But nothing about Mbali is basic, including her reinvention strategy.
"From driving the campus cab, appearing on the campus gossip show, The Spill by Raeesah (played by Nicole Bessick), and even running the SRC campaign, Mbali's journey back to the top is encouraged and inspired by her new misfit squad, Jay (played by Prev Reddy) and Natalie (played by Michaela Tucker)," a press statement reads.
"And the SRC campaign she's running? All inspired by campus rowing champion, local hottie and now dramatic situationship Sivu Levine (played by Lunga Shabalala), who's up against veteran president, longtime campus activist aka 'Comrade' Caesar (played by Mpho Sebeng) and Hotep conspiracy theorist Mubarak (played by Ebenhazer Dibakwane)."
"We're excited for South Africa and the world to see our latest comedy-drama that we've cooked up with Netflix," Miseducation creator and Burnt Onion creative director Rethabile Ramaphakela said.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Netflix in telling uniquely South African stories that we can take to the world. Miseducation promises to be an offbeat and fun comedy-drama series with a diverse bunch of colourful characters who are just trying to get through this thing called life."
Miseducation launches on Friday, 15 September, on Netflix.
