  • Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who descends from Italian aristocracy, in a surprise ceremony on Friday.
  • Edoardo is the eldest son of Olympian skier and member of the Italian noble family, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi.
  • Edoardo will inherit the family's ancestral seat and the 18th century Villa Mapelli Mozzi palace in Italy, and because he's a count, Beatrice will automatically become a countess.

Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a surprise ceremony in Windsor on Friday.

Though Beatrice had to cancel her initial plans to marry on Friday, 29 May 2020, at The Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, with a reception hosted by the queen at Buckingham Palace after, Her Majesty still played a special role on the princess' big day. Did you know Beatrice wore a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell and the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, both belonging to the queen?

In the past, the queen has also given titles to William and Kate who became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after they got married, and Harry and Meghan who now go by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but she's not the one giving Princess Beatrice a new title.

Her Royal Highness, Princess Beatrice of York, has gone from Miss to Mrs – and has also become a "Contessa" and "Nobile Donna".

Though we know Edoardo as Beatrice's property developer fiancé, he also descends from Italian aristocracy, reports People.

He is the eldest son of Olympian skier and member of the Italian noble family, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, which means he will inherit the family's ancestral seat and the 18th century Villa Mapelli Mozzi palace in Italy.

Edo's dad explains: "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count — his wife will be a countess automatically, and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."
