  • Arendsvlei actress Beáta Bena-Green has entered Miss South Africa 2020.
  • Beáta's cousin, Tamaryn Green, was crowned Miss South Africa 2018.
  • In 2017 Beáta won the provincial category at Miss Mamelodi Sundowns.

Arendsvlei actress Beáta Bena-Green has entered Miss South Africa 2020, saying: "I'm excited by the opportunity to amplify the voice of anyone whose story needs to be told."

Beáta, who has several beauty titles under her belt, including Miss Teen South Africa, said in her Instagram entry that there was a time when she thought that Miss South Africa was no longer "on the cards."

"I started growing up and realising that certain parts of me were different to society's preconceived ideas of the 'perfect woman' but, like with everything in life, times changed and the organisation was ready," she wrote in the caption of her video entry.

The talented actress isn't the first in her family to have her eye set on the national title, Beáta's cousin, Tamaryn Green, was crowned Miss South Africa 2018, and took home second place at Miss Universe later that same year.

In 2017 Beáta won the provincial category at Miss Mamelodi Sundowns, and this year she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her cousin.

"Everything will continue to remain in God's hands. Thank you to my parents, siblings and inner circle who have supported me greatly in my quest of living my truth," she continued in her entry.

Beáta's video message has a focus on the power of storytelling, which is close to her heart. She currently portrays the role of Kim on KykNet telenovela Arendsvlei and holds a degree in the arts.

Many events have been cancelled, postponed, or moved to a virtual space to adhere to social distancing restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With this in mind, the Miss South Africa Organisation has confirmed that the 2020 pageant will be going ahead as planned with a "new format.

The new format included a social media entry component, which was introduced last year.

Previously, the Miss South Africa Organisation has sent a representative to both Miss Universe and Miss World, but will also now be fielding a candidate to Miss Supranational
