One of the biggest teams in Africa has now received new hope in their pursuit of a certain Paris Saint-Germain star.

Several players have swapped European nations for African countries in recent years, including Tariq Lamptey, Houssem Aouar, and Inaki Williams.

A more recent example is Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz, who opted to represent Morocco instead of Spain in March this year.

The trend looks set to continue too, with various African teams reportedly still in pursuit of overseas talent who have roots in Africa.

Among those eligible for a nationality switch is PSG star Hugo Ekitike, and it has been extensively reported that Cameroon have an interest in tying him down.

The striker, who is currently out on loan at German side Eintracht Frankfurt, is eligible to represent the Indomitable Lions through his Cameroonian father, although he was born in Reims, France.

New Cameroon head coach Marc Brys recently told French outlet Le Monde that he had spoken to a few players in Europe, including the Premier League duo of Andre Onana of Manchester United and Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion regarding future selections.

He also hinted at having spoken with Ekitike, telling the publication that "we must respect his choice", leaving the suggestion that the centre-forward would rather play for France instead, having previously at U20 and U21 level.

However, Ekitike's agent Karl Mwalako Buchmann has insisted that no conversation between Brys and his client ever took place.

"Hugo Ekitike never said anything to anyone on this subject, neither to the Lions coach nor to the media," the player representative said, per Afrik-Foot.

As such, there now looks to be a glimmer of hope that the 21-year-old star could yet decide to represent Cameroon over France at senior international level.
