Head coach Cavin Johnson has responded to questions about when Mfundo Vilakazi could be expected to make his first start for Kaizer Chiefs, having impressed in recent matches.

Vilakazi was brought on as a second-half substitute as Chiefs broke a five-game winless run with a 2-1 win over SuperSport United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

It was a second league appearance for the teenager, who made his first league appearance in a 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC a week prior.

Speaking to the media after the match, Johnson was asked if he believed the highly-rated 18-year-old was ready to start a match.

"That depends on the tactics for the next opponent,” responded Johnson.

"[It also depends on] How we see him in doing the best he can in order to make the team succeed. But he is a good player; he will start.”

Amakhosi legend Jabu Mahlangu also took to social media platform Instagram to give his seal of approval.

"For me, Mfundo Vilakazi, his (he’s) a proper Kaizer Chiefs material and he needs to [play] every game,” Mahlangu wrote.
