Johannesburg - It is not a regular thing to attend an event and have a pastor open it with a prayer – unless, of course, it is a gospel concert.
So, having Pastor Gift Molaisi from the Rhema Bible Church open the Baby Mamas red carpet premiere on Thursday was one of the reasons the event was so cool.
We arrived for food, drinks and interviews at the Barnyard Theatre in Cresta. Loved the decor: It looked like we were at someone’s baby shower, balloons and all.
We helped ourselves to bubbly, orange and apple juice plus some locally produced gemere, which tasted really nice by the way.
Celebrities came out in numbers to support the event. We spotted 7de Laan’s Mimi Mahlasela, face and hair on point – but the rose gold, gold, silver and black jumpsuit she wore was a big no-no.
Scandal!’s Lusanda Mdane looked yummy in a red number; she looks good in bald and she is so loud and full of life.
Tshepo “Howza” Mosese came through to support his wife Salamina and he looked simply stylish in a navy-blue suit that complemented his wife’s long, blue, body-hugging dress, detailed with pearls.
The producers of the film, Salamina and Stephina Zwane (writer and director), thanked the crew, cast and sponsors for supporting their vision.
The women could not stop themselves from screaming with delight at scenes featuring Jonathan Boynton-Lee.
Baby Mamas is a comedy drama about the daily lives and loves of four professional women, who are each in different stages of their own baby-mama drama.
The cast includes Dineo Ranaka, Thembisa Mdoda, Kay Smith, Sthembiso Khoza, Pamela Nomvete, Khaya Mthembu, Donovan Pieterson and Anthony Wilson.
The movie was great. A big up to Mosese, Zwane and the team. Funded by the Emerging Black Filmmakers’ Fund, the film will be in cinemas from 12 October.
