WATCH: Khanyi Mbau like you've never seen her before in thrilling Red Room trailer

Cape Town - Khanyi Mbau is broken, beaten and destitute in the trailer for local thriller, Red Room. 

Taking to Instagram to unveil the trailer, Khanyi wrote: "My first thriller. Can't wait for you to see it."

Khanyi portrays the role of expecting mother, Zama, who is married to a very rich and successful business man. Her world is turned upside down when her husband dies and she finds herself homeless.

Speaking to Channel24 about the movie, Khanyi said: "This is quite dark, it's about sexual abuse, it's about physical abuse, and it's a dark film. I mean, probably just the first 15 minutes of the film are the lightest part, the happiest part, then throughout the film it's just journey of survival."

"It's scary to go to those places but it is what is necessary to portray this character. I'll probably need therapy after this," she added.

According to Khanyi the movie releases at cinemas in March.
