Gigi Lamayne on dealing with her depression: 'I'm in a good space'

Johannesburg – Chatting to Masechaba Ndlovu and Mo Flava on Metro FM’s drive show, Gigi Lamayne gave fans an update on her current state, including where she’s headed with her music and how she’s dealing with her depression.

The star had fans in a panic in November 2018 when she shared a few concerning tweets which many believed indicated that she was feeling suicidal.

Reports later surfaced that Gigi had landed in hospital after trying to take her own life.

Gigi has since spoken openly about her depression, and in the interview on Metro FM confirmed that she is now “in a good space.”

“I’m fixing a lot of friendships, relationships from the previous year, and of course I’ve discarded the ones that just aren’t allowing me to grow,” she added.

With regard to how she’s dealing with her depression, Gigi says counselling has helped her a lot. The star also mentioned that she has started meditating and reading up on the disorder.

“There’s so many people who suffer from depression and they don’t come out and speak about it. It’s not a weakness. It’s something I’ve learned to deal with every single day. But we’re not dying, we’re not mentally unstable and all the other different stigmas that go with it. We’re just simply misplaced in the world. We’re people who care too much, so we feel energies more. Things get to us easily. And so I’ve had to create mechanisms to be able to deal with that,” she said.

As far as her music career is concerned, Gigi confirmed that she has left Ambitious Entertainment, saying: “I needed to grow. I needed to start counting my own money. I needed to start making my own money. I needed to grow up an understand how Gigi as a business was supposed to work initially. Shout out to them [Ambitious Entertainment]. I learned so much from them and I appreciate it.”
