Imagine this: you’re a 14-year-old little girl with big dreams, growing up idolising Oprah Winfrey and even watching her show every afternoon. Then, you hear that she’s starting a school for girls in your country but you’re a little too old to be accepted – but one day, you not only meet her in your adult years, you are asked to deliver a speech and are introduced by Oprah herself. Crazy right?!

Local actress, Nomzamo Mbatha doesn’t have to imagine it because it’s her life story.

The Isibaya actress took to her Instagram page to share how excited she was to give a keynote address at the Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls for their 2019 graduation ceremony.

“It’s not every day that you get to be introduced by the incomparable Oprah Winfrey. I remember when I was 14 and the announcement was made that she would be conducting interviews with young girls across the country that would join the academy, I was devastated!! I even considered dropping two grades down JUST so I could attend. To have the opportunity to be in an institution that nurtures young girls from all backgrounds,” she wrote in the caption.

Nomzamo then shared how honoured she feels to have had this opportunity, and even slipped in a note to her 15-year-old self.

“Fast forward to today and I am giving the Keynote Address at the Class of 2019 Valedictory Ceremony.

“What a full circle it is for me today. What an honour for Mama O to introduce me. I know my angels in heaven are having a sing and dance. Today was a humbling day. Today was a good day.”

“Dear 15-year-old Zamo... Guess what, it gets sunnier as we go along.”

In the video posted by the KZN beauty, Oprah Winfrey is standing behind a podium on the stage as she reads Nomzamo’s long list of credentials and all her achievements. At some point, Oprah even says, “She could be woman of the year every single day, she’s just so busy she doesn’t have the time”.

Oprah also mentioned that because of her impact and influence, the class of 2019 unanimously chose Nomzamo to be the main speaker at the ceremony.
