Johannesburg - Actor, playwright and director Thobani Nzuza who is best known for his leading role as Mdeni on the Mzansi Magic drama series eHostela is set to join the popular SABC 1 soapie Uzalo.

He will be portraying the character of Bheki and although he cannot divulge more information about his character, he says viewers will love the drama he will bring to the soapie.

"I cannot say much because the producers of the soapie advised me not to, but I am looking forward to this new chapter of my life," he says.

Although the actor has been in the industry for a few years he says he still gets nervous about auditions but for his role on Uzalo he was surprisingly not nervous.

"I still get super nervous when I have to audition for a role, but this time I just felt like I was made for the role," he says. "I had auditioned some time last year but was unsuccessful, so when I gave it a shot this year I reflected on how much I have grown in the past year," he adds.

Beaming with confidence after his audition he felt slightly discouraged when he did not receive a call back almost immediately.

"I started thinking that I had not bagged the role and as I had just started to accept reality, about three weeks later, I received a call notifying me that I got it," he says. "I was really excited, and I feel really humbled to have gotten the opportunity to be on one of the most watched soapies in the country," he adds.

The KZN-born actor starred in e.tv’s Isipho: The Gift earlier this year. He has already started shooting his scenes on Uzalo, he says.

He is an avid lover of theatre and is currently working on a theatre production titled Boy Ntulikazi, which tells the story of a 14-year-old girl living with her parents in extreme poverty who falls pregnant and decides to leave her home, fearing that her elders will not accept the child.
