UPDATE: - 5 November, 06:39: Netflix SA has confirmed that the show will remain on the service in 2019.
Cape Town – There was a collective panic from Friends fans in the US on Monday when Buzzfeed reported that the popular sitcom will be removed from Netflix US at the end of the year.
The publication posted a screengrab from the streaming service which indicated that the show would be available until 1 January 2019.
Twitter users then went into overdrive with users threatening to cancel their subscriptions.
Later in the day Netflix US cleared the air assuring fans that Friends will still be available throughout 2019 and the expiration date was removed.
The official twitter account tweeted: “The Holiday Armadillo has granted your wish: “Friends” will still be there for you in the US throughout 2019.”

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer told The Hollywood Reporter that the show's "departure is a rumour."
With Warner Bros launching their own streaming service next year there is speculation that the studio will eventually pull all 10 seasons of Friends from Netflix.
Good news for South Africans is that the show will still be available on Showmax and is not going away anytime soon.
