Cape Town - It seems blessings come in pairs for talented actor Oros Mampofu.

After the birth of his baby girl in February, the 28-year-old actor has now joined e.tv soapie Rhythm City

The former Skeem Saam actor – who will play Banele, a rural Xhosa man who received a bursary to study at a higher institution – will appear on our screens from Thursday, 16 May.

"I feel very humbled to play this role. Banele speaks to societal matters and issues faced by students at institutions," he tells DRUM.

The 28-year-old says his storyline highlights the importance of education and financial struggles faced by students.

As a first born, Banele comes from a family which relies on social grant to make a living. When he goes to university, their dreams and hopes are on his shoulders. He finds himself working as a recycler to support his family.

"Banele is a representation of what society is dealing with, especially students. So it gives me such an honour to play such a well thought out character,” he explains.

The role of Banele is not the only role he is excited about but his role as a new father is taking centre stage too.

"It’s going great, it’s a very great experience," he says briefly about fatherhood.

Catch Oros from Thursday, 16 May at 19:00 on Rhythm City (DStv 194 and Openview 104).
