Cape Town – John Legend will play Jesus of Nazareth in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, set to air Easter 2018.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer of the musical, tweeted on Tuesday morning: “We are thrilled to have @johnlegend join us as Jesus for @JCSTheMusical Live! this Easter #TeamALW.”
Speaking about his casting, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement: “This score demands a singer with an amazing range and an actor with great depth, and there isn’t anyone better to bring this story to a new audience.
“His casting is also ground-breaking as the traditional image of Christ will be seen in a new way.”
The All of Me singer tweeted about the news to which his wife Chrissy Teigen responded with one important question, how will he fit in the manger?
