George R R Martin teases new details in 'Game of Thrones' prequel series

Cape Town - The upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series will shed some light on the history of the fantasy drama's Stark family and the White Walkers, according to the creator of the franchise George R. R. Martin.

The new series stars Naomi Watts as a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret according to HBO.

The show will take place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones; the series chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

Other cast members include Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, Miranda Richardson, Marquis Rodriquez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx.

Filming for the prequel began in June in Belfast.
