Christian group upset over TV show boycotts the wrong streaming service

Cape Town – A Christian group in America has started a petition calling for the cancellation of the new series, Good Omens.

The petition that has been signed by more 20 000 people calls for Netflix to remove the show from their platform.

One big problem, though, it is not showing on Netflix but on Amazon Prime Video.

The petition on the website Return to Order says the series "portrays the agents of Good and Evil as fighters in an arbitrary struggle devoid of meaning and truth. This series presents devils and Satanists as normal and even good, where they merely have a different way of being, and mocks God's wisdom."

Based on the 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman the series follows David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale who work together to prevent an apocalypse on Earth.

The 6 episode series was released on the Amazon on Friday, 31 May.

Responding to the petition, Neil wrote on Twitter: "I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really."

On Friday the petition was updated to reflect as Amazon as the correct distributor instead of Netflix as previously listed.

The staff posted an apology which reads: "Due to an oversight by Return to Order staff, this petition originally listed Netflix as responsible for the offensive series Good Omens. Amazon Video released the series on May 31. We regret the mistake, and the protests will be delivered to Amazon when the campaign is complete."
