'Boer Soek 'n Vrou' breaks new ground as first gay contestant starts his journey to find love on the show tonight

Cape Town - kykNET's popular reality show, Boer Soek 'n Vrou is back for a twelfth season.

Hosted by singer and actress Leah, viewers will once again follow the journey of 10 farmers and their search for love in the 13-episode series which premieres on Thursday, 17 October at 20:00 on DStv 144.

Nine of the ten male farmers are looking for a female companion, and the remaining one hopes to find the ideal male partner.

For the first time an openly gay male will take part in the Afrikaans reality show. In a truly historic moment Damian, a 37-year-old cattle and sheep farmer from Bapsfontein, is bravely breaking new ground in a TV show that has a largely conservative Afrikaans following.

In the first episode, Leah visits each farmer to find out more about what they farm with, the dream and what qualities they are looking for in a future partner. (Meet all the farmers here)

At the end of episode, two which will air on 24 October viewers will find out which five contestants received the most letters and then will choose who they take on dates.
