Cape Town - Actor Aubrey Poo made his final appearance on SABC 3’s daily soapie Isidingo on Thursday night and it was a sad moment for fans of his character.
Aubrey first briefly appeared in the soapie for four months in 2015 and then left to work in Cape Town on a play by David Kramer Ophius in Africa.
When that was done, he returned to Isidingo as a permanent actor.
But just as when fans were enjoying the wicked ways of his character Gabriel ‘’Moruti waTstotsi’’ Mothusi, he was shot dead by his accomplice Nina Zamdela, played by Khabonina Qubeka, making his role come to an end.
Aubrey says his departure from Isidingo was amicable and he will miss playing the pastor’s dodgy antics.
Speaking to DRUM the actor said, “I will miss the freedom I was given to be creative and do all the madness that I wanted with the character.”
“It’s encouraging for an actor to be trusted with a role and be given the opportunity to explore and push yourself, he added.
Aubrey said as much as he loved playing Gabriel his time on Isidingo was done and there was nothing more left for his character to do.
“Moruti waTstotsi shook up Horizon Deep, my job is done. And now I’m onto the next one. The next time you see me, I will be revealing something big,” he said.
Isidingo’s Executive Producer Pumla Hopa told Drum the crew and cast will miss Aubrey’s energy and fluidity and his character.
“Gabriel was a real opportunistic chameleon and slotted into all tiers of our world causing havoc and playing people at their own games. We will forever be grateful to the exceptionally talented and professional Aubrey,” she said.
And with that we bid @ActorAubrey aka Gabriel goodbye. Thank you for portraying Gabriel so well. You will be sorely missed. @NthabiTau thank you for a jam packed episode!! #Isidingo #Isidingo20years pic.twitter.com/zLsh7fvcGE
