After 19 years of playing Hilda, Annelisa Weiland is ready to let-go of her scarf and embrace a fresh new breeze on Suidooster

Cape Town – For 19 years Annelisa Weiland played Hilda van Zyl in the SABC 2 soapie, 7de Laan

Now the 70-year-old actress has found a new home in the Ruiterbosch community in Suidooster on kykNet (DStv 144) and kykNET & Kie (DStv 145).

Annelisa will make her debut in the soapie from Monday, 18 November.

In this Q&A, we find out more about her character, how she let go of Hilda's scarf, and her new beginning in Cape Town.

Can you tell us a bit more about your character, and how she will fit into the storyline?

My character Kate Vosloo is married with three children, two sons and a daughter. She lives in Pretoria and comes to visit her daughter, Michelle (Greta Pietersen) and her husband Stefan (Gideon Lombard), who lives in Ruiterbosch. However, it soon appears that Kate's arrival in Ruiterbosch is more than just a visit and that she might be here to stay since she needs to rediscover who she is, while making a decision about her marriage, due to some questionable actions of her husband Albertus (Richard van der Westhuizen).

Hilda's scarf sits so snugly around your neck. How do you let that part of you go to create a new character?

Apart from fitting snugly around my neck, my scarf hid a myriad of wrinkles which sets in after middle age, but it was also very restricting, so it's a wonderful release now that it's gone.

Before signing on to Suidooster, were you a fan of the show and did you have a favourite character?

Suidooster is like a fresh breeze for me as I've never had kykNET before and couldn't watch it.

You moved to Cape Town, what has been the biggest change you had to make on a personal level?

Just like my character Kate I'm tackling new challenges of which one was to change the cities. Though I loved Johannesburg, it is great to be back in Cape Town too, as I grew up here and I'm at least familiar with the surroundings.

When you come home from a long day on set, what do you watch to decompress?

Watching my dogs who leap around with gay abandon when I come home starts the decompressing process.
