As we all do our part to help tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic by staying home, social distancing and gradually phasing out of lockdown in the coming weeks, we can’t help but find ourselves wishing for some of the things we love and miss most. Whether it’s spending quality time with our family and friends or being able to treat ourselves to a fresh haircut, here are four things we are wishing for during the lockdown blues:

1 – A IRL braai with friends and family

The new normal is having virtual house parties, braais, and hangouts with your friends vie apps and phone screens, but between lagging responses and ‘buffering’, they just aren’t the same as an IRL hang out. The lockdown has us wishing for the real-time laughs of our loved ones as we cheers and chink glasses together around the braai.

2 – An outdoor run, jog or hike

Our feet, and souls, are itching for a good outdoor adventure. We’re wishing for the days when we can once again take one of SA’s stunning mountain trails or stroll along the beaches again to reinvigorate us with crisp and fresh air, and Insta-worthy snap opportunities.

3 – A spa day

The stress of the pandemic and lockdown does wonders in adding to the tension in our muscles and thoughts. It makes one start wishing for a good pamper day to massage out the stress, paint our neglected nails, and freshen up our hair. We’re all craving a bit of TLC, so this lockdown wish goes out to all the spa days we’ve loved before.

4 – Indulgent non-essential retail therapy

We may still be able to shop for essential items but unpacking the groceries just isn’t the same as unwrapping a new pair of boots and trying a new shade of nail polish. Oh, how we wish we could indulge in a little bit of a non-essential shopping while passing by glistening and closed store windows. Our wishful eyes catching glimpses of fresh books, shiny jewellery, and tech that tease us in passing while shopping for essentials.
