Since being crowned Miss South Africa in 2010, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala has taken major strides in the pageant and business industry.
From becoming a representative at Miss Universe and Miss World in 2011 to launching a kids’ clothing line and dolls project.
“When I started the Princess Bokang and the Super Shabba brand I literally wanted kids to wear clothes of characters that look like them and even to be able to play with dolls that look like them – because representation really matters,” Bokang said in an Instagram video.
It’s been four years since taking the plunge with this venture and Bokang has used her personal story to inspire young girls and boys from a background similar to her own.
She recently also released a children's book to empower young minds. Titled The Princess Bokang and The Super Shabba, it’s a depiction of the life of her soccer star husband, Simphiwe Tshabalala.
“Not only are our little ones going to wear clothes with characters that look like them or play with a doll that looks like them but they can now read stories close to home, stories they can relate to!” Bokang wrote.
Hinting at the storyline, the beauty said Princess Bokang is a village girl who didn’t need a prince to be a princess but believed in herself and her dreams, becomes Princess of Africa and wears the biggest crown.
Bokang says her mission is to instil self-love and confidence in young girls and show them that they’re not defined by their background but by believing in the power of their dreams.
