Britney Spears addresses rumours about mental health

accreditation

Cape Town - Singer Britney Spears recently took to Instagram to address rumours she was being held against her will at a mental health facility and says her family have been receiving death threats.

Fans of the pop star began the #FreeBritney hashtag campaign based on unfounded rumours that the 37-year-old was being held against her will at an institution by her dad, Jamie (66), FOX News reports.

Britney’s dad became the sole conservator of his daughter’s estate in March after her attorney Andrew Wallet resigned.

The Pretty Girls singer checked into a wellness facility for mental health treatment earlier this month, according to Page Six

"I wanted to say hi because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!!" reads the caption of a video of Britney.

"There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said."

Fans were still concerned as the star hadn’t clarified whether she was being kept at the mental health centre against her will or if she voluntarily committed to treatment.

To make matters worse Britney’s mom, Lynn (63), liked several comments on an Instagram post that suggested the rumours of her eldest daughter being held against her will were true.

"My situation is unique but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment," the Grammy winner wrote further and asked for privacy to help her "deal with all the hard things life is throwing my way".

In the video itself, Britney tells the camera she will be back soon.
