Cape Town - Ariane Grande broke down in tears during her performance in ex Mac Miller’s hometown.

In a video captured by a fan on Instagram, the 25-year-old can be seen becoming emotional while singing her song Thank U, Next to a packed stadium in Pittsburg, California, in the US.

"This concert was beyond amazing. @arianagrande is a true talent. We definitely heard her tribute to @macmiller right here . . . Pittsburg loves you!" Instagram user Kathy captioned her post.

The American songstress struggled to sing the line "Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm," but audience members showed their support by applauding loudly.

In addition to her touching tributes on stage, the 7 Rings singer also played a few of the late rapper’s songs before her show started and made sure to leave an empty seat for him, Daily Mail reports.

Ariana and the American rapper dated for two years before calling it quits last year.

The rapper died from a suspected drug overdose in December, USA Today reports.

Since his death, Ariana has paid tribute to him on social media numerous times.

"I adored you from the day I met you when I was 19, and I always will," she wrote in one post. "You were my dearest friend for so long, above anything else. I'm so sorry I couldn't fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to."
