Rihanna reportedly turns down Super Bowl halftime performance in support of Colin Kaepernick

Cape Town – Pop singer Rihanna has reportedly declined an offer to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show, to show her support of American football star Colin Kaepernick according to US Weekly.

For those who might have missed it: Back in 2016 Kaepernick started kneeling during the American national anthem (which is played at the start of each game) in protest of injustices faced by African-Americans in the United States.

The athlete faced some serious backlash from within the National Football League and among conservatives but was also supported by a slew of other players and celebs.

Kaepernick is now suing the NFL and its owners for colluding to prevent his hiring.

Maroon 5 are the confirmed performers for Super Bowl LIII on February 3 in Atlanta according to Variety.
