Johannesburg - Kanye West is never one to shy away from controversy.
The rapper has just paid $85,000 (R 1060 919, 00) of his own money for a picture of the late Whitney Houston‘s drug-filled bathroom, which featured on the cover of the National Enquirer in 2006.
The husband of Kim Kardashian has now used the picture for the cover art for Pusha T’s latest album Daytona, which he produced.
Both rappers posted the images on twitter, as they looked to create hype for the album.
In a radio interview with Angie Martinez, Pusha confirmed that it was Kanye’s idea to use the image for his album cover.
“One a.m., my phone rings,” the 41-year-old rapper explained about Kanye making changes the night before his album’s release.
“No caller ID. [He says,] ‘Hey, yeah, I think we should change the artwork. And I like this other artwork. And this other artwork is 85 grand. I said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to pay for that and I wasn’t even going to ask you to pay for that. We picked what we picked, it’s here, it’s ready,'” he continued. Kanye then told him, “‘No, this is what people need to see to go along with this music. Imma pay for that.’ I say, ‘You my man! You my man!'”
It’s not the first time Kanye has been controversial with album cover designs.
In April, cosmetic surgeon Jan Adams turned down the rappers request to use his mug shot for his upcoming album LOVE EVERYONE.
Jan was the doctor who gave Kanye West's mother Donda a tummy tuck, liposuction and breast reduction just a day before her death.
In an open letter, the 64-year-old responded to the request by asking the rapper to "cease and desist using my photo or any image of me to promote your album or any of your work," adding that it was "inappropriate to drag the negativity of the past with it".
