Cape Town – Kanye West has been teasing the release of an album called, Jesus is King, for quite some time. The released date was scheduled for 27 September, but it didn't happen to the disappointment of many.
Then last weekend it looked like, Jesus Is King, was close to coming out after the father-of-four held multiple listening parties where he played an unfinished version of it (and said that he's a newly converted Christian).
Now instead of just announcing a release date of the album that we've waiting for, Kanye has released an IMAX trailer for a film titled Jesus is King to go with the album that never arrived. Screenings for the new movie will start on Friday, 25 October. Tickets are currently on sale (sadly no screenings are scheduled for South Africa, just yet).
According to Stereogum, the film features 13 gospel-style songs arranged by Kanye performed by the Sunday Service choir. Plus, the hotly anticipated album.
Jesus is King was directed by Nick Knight and filmed over the summer at an art installation by James Turrell called Roden Crater in the Painted Desert of Arizona.
In the trailer, a Bible verse appears on the screen, saying: "In the words of Jesus Christ, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the gospel. Mark 1:15."
