Adam Schlesinger, who co-founded the pop-rock band Fountains of Wayne, has died from complications related to Covid-19. He was 52.
Adam won an Emmy for his work on the popular TV show, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and throughout his career was nominated for an Oscar, Grammys and numerous other awards.
The songwriter's death follows his hospitalisation earlier this week. Adam's attorney, Josh Grier confirmed his client's admittance to a medical facility due to complications from the virus and said that the musician had been put on a ventilator.
In a statement following Adam's death, released to CNN, legal representatives said on Thursday: "As many of you are aware, Adam had been hospitalised with Covid-19, and although he had been making some small improvements over the last few days, Adam's condition was critical, and he was ultimately unable to recover from Covid-19 complications."
He was truly a prolific talent and even more so, a loving and devoted father, son and friend." It added: "We are terribly sorry to convey this loss."
Adam co-founded Fountains of Wayne with lead singer Chris Collingwood. The band reached the starts with their 2003 single Stacy's Mom.
The 52-year-old found more success in the world of TV and movies. He wrote the title song to the Tom Hanks-helmed film That Thing You Do! which was released in 1996, and was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his work.
Adam later won a Grammy for co-writing and co-producing the album, A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!
As mentioned earlier, he also won an Emmy for his work on the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which aired its last episode in America, last year.
The lead actress of that show, Rachel Bloom wrote a tweet mourning her frequent collaborator, on Thursday, saying: "I have so much to say about Adam Schlesinger that I am at a complete loss for words. He is irreplaceable."
