Destiny's Child fans may soon have a behind-the-scenes peek at the band's story

Johannesburg - Fans of Beyoncé's former band Destiny's Child may soon have a behind-the-scenes peek at its story from the man who made them famous.

Mathew Knowles - author, music mogul and Beyoncé's father - says his next book is likely to be Destiny's Child, the untold story.

Knowles left his job at the Xerox Corporation to launch the careers of the then-unknown girl band.

Knowles, in Cape Town to promote his latest book, The Emancipation of Slaves through Music, spoke at the UCT Graduate School of Business on Friday.

He cautioned the audience to read celebrity news - and other news - with a critical mind. "It's a Jedi mind trick because there's no bad publicity. But know that you are being given information purposefully. It's mind control.

"A 16- to 20- year old picks up a phone 2 000 times a day."

Knowles, who is no longer Beyoncé's manager, says he is prouder of the people his daughters are than of their success as celebrities.

"The best thing is [my daughters'] love and affection, and having them say, 'I love you, Daddy.' There is no feeling in the world like that," he says.

He has previously controversially said Beyoncé's success was at least partially attributable to her having a light skin. Asked by Fin24 how he spoke to his children about racism, he said it was always an open conversation in the home.

"My former wife and I were very open and honest. We made our daughters aware that they were going to face a world where there would be racism, sexism, xenophobia. From the beginning we spoke openly with them about that.

"It is a reality," he said.

Knowles lectures on entrepreneurship and music entrepreneurship at various tertiary institutions, and is a public speaker and author. Music is very meaningful to him, he says. "Music comes from the word muse," he says. " It's that spiritual thing inside of us. It helps us with our emotions more than anything. That's why artists that don't write their songs aren't as good as artists that write their songs... That's what makes Beyoncé one of the greatest artists - she goes deep inside.

"Except maybe for 'Bills, bills, bills'," he joked.

The music legend is appeared as a guest judge on Idols SA on Sunday.
