Cape Town - Celine Dion has made the decision to pull her song ‘ I am your Angel’ which features R Kelly from music streaming sites according to TMZ.
This comes in the wake of the #MuteRKelly movement which was triggered by the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly. The documentary featured young women who have spoken out against the RnB artist – claiming he is abusive, has had tendencies of paedophilia, and predatory behaviour towards them.
“The song – I'm Your Angel - was recorded in 1998 and appeared on her holiday album, These are Special Times. R Kelly wrote the song but it did not appear on any of his albums. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for six weeks. It was certified platinum and sold more than 1.5 million copies. It was also nominated for a Grammy,” reports TMZ.
Celine is not the only artist who has spoken out against R Kelly and removed music made with him from music platforms. Lady Gaga, Chance the Rapper, Nick Canon and John Legend have also done the same.
In a statement about the You Saved Me hitmaker, Lady Gaga wrote:
“What I am hearing about the allegations against R Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible.”
“The Pussycat Dolls are also said to be attempting a similar move, with their track ‘Out Of This Club’, though this is currently still playable on streaming apps and websites,” according to Huffpost.
