Cape Town - Rocker Adam Lambert is back with his first project of original music in four years, Velvet: Side A.
The former American Idol contestant told The Associated Press - in a sit-down interview - why it took him so long to release new music, and what he’s learned from touring the world with Queen.
He also said that he understood why Lil Nas X revealed he was gay as Old Town Road topped the charts. This is a turnaround from a decade ago, when Adam famously said: "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader" in a headline grabbing interview with Rolling Stone Magazine.
Now, after the music industry has changed, so has Adam's viewpoint and he’s happy to see more mainstream LGBTQ artists find major success while being out and proud.
He elaborated by using Lil Nas X as an example: "I think I can relate to someone like Lil Nas X who waited until a song went to No. 1 to be like, 'By the way, I’m gay,'."
He added: "It proves a point that you can have success, big success. It is possible. Anybody is welcome to have that kind of success. And maybe it’s not about what your sexuality is at the end of the day."
