Johannesburg - Afro-soul singer Zonke Dikana mesmerised her fans when she sang Jik’ Izinto from her album Ina Ethe at Emmarentia Botanical Gardens on Thursday afternoon.
More than 3 000 fans braved the cold weather to celebrate Women’s Day in style.
The women in the audience couldn’t help but sing along when the songbird stepped on stage and dished out their favourite hit. Dikana, clad in a black blouse and grey glittering harem trousers, told the crowd how she missed performing in Johannesburg.
“It feels good to be performing in Joburg after a such a long time,” said Dikana, who has been busy promoting her latest offering, L.O.V.E.
A star-studded female line-up included Lady Zamar, Sho Madjozi, Zamo and Mafikizolo.
Sheer Entertainment and Breakout Management brought this special event in celebration of Women’s Month.
Festival director Joe Chakela, who has previously produced the annual Divas Concert at Macufe, said producing the event for many years and seeing it grow in stature meant there had to be a next step to provide a regular platform to celebrate women.
“I could not think of a more central and scenically beautiful space than the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens for an afternoon out with the family or friends and with a picnic basket, enjoying our diverse line-up on Women’s Day,” he said.
