MOVIE:

Paddington

OUR RATING:

4/5 Stars

WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

The comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear who travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realise that city life is not all he had imagined, until he meets the kindly Brown family, who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you,” and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed, until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

The charming and adored English bear is back, bringing back the beloved character of the Michael Bond books we have grown up reading.

The bear from the deepest, darkest Peru with his old red hat, battered suitcase, duffle blue coat, and love for marmalade has become a classic character in children’s literature – and the movie is just like the books.

This live action feature of Paddington Bear brings together an all-star British cast with Hugh Bonneville (Downtown Abbey), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter).

The film takes us back to that very jungle and we are whisked into the world of these dishevelled bears. An earthquake leaves Paddington an orphan stranded at Paddington Railway Station in London with just a label saying “Please look after this bear. Thank you”.

The Browns come to his rescue and take him in temporarily as they go in search for an explorer who promised him a home. This is where he is met with various adventures which typically ends with him messing up, just going to the bathroom leads to a super tubing experience in a bath tub. However, in all the adventures he ends up on top and everyone shares a good laugh about it.

This movie is very entertaining, genuinely funny from the animation to the action sequences. It also, of course tucks at the heart strings about the importance of family so if you’re a fan of the Paddington books this movie won’t disappoint.

This family friendly comedy brings a lot of laughs and warm memories of the always polite, kind hearted bear with an endless capacity for getting into trouble.
