We reviewed the 4 new movies in SA cinemas this weekend and here's what we thought of each one

Cape Town – The Predators aren’t done with earth just yet. The latest instalment of the franchise hits the big screen this weekend.

The universe's most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biologist can prevent the end of the human race.

Also showing: Kevin Spacey in a deadly drama, Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy in a genre-bender and the true-story of a military dog that fought in WWI.

Here are the 4 new films releasing in SA:

Movie: The Predator

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: Filmmaker Shane Black tries to capture the spirit of the testosterone-fuelled original Predator with a new alien-versus-soldiers saga but its marred by questionable decisions and poorly connected scenes.

Ansel Elgort in a scene from the movie, Billionai

Movie: Submergence

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: Submergence starts off with a great love connection between stunning actors, and then ends up wanting to drown the audience in boredom.

Alicia Vikander in a scene from the movie, Submerg

Movie: Sgt. Stubby

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: Sgt Stubby is a true story about a dog that fought in WWI, and through him this animated movie makes a gruesome war accessible to kids to learn about history.
