Movie fans in the Mother City will have to find alternative cinemas to get their movie fix from Friday, 6 March.
Channel24 has learned that both the Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro cinemas will not be in operation at the V&A Waterfront for the foreseeable future.
In a statement to Channel24, Ster-Kinekor said that the Cinema Nouveau will close temporarily for renovations from Friday, 6 March and will return with a "bigger and better offering."
Nu Metro's executive management however was unable to give clarity about what the future of its cinema in the Waterfront would be, saying in a statement: "We are unfortunately not in a position to provide further details or comment at this point. A statement will be issued in due course."
While the chain's management is tight-lipped, we discovered that when you try to book a movie on the website at the cinema, you can only book for Friday, 6 March.

Local movie, Moffie, which will be released in South Africa on 13 March has already made an alternative arrangement to screen the film at The Fugard Theatre.
Hey, Cape Town. Unfortunately, both of the cinemas in the V&A Waterfront are closing, but don’t worry, you will still be able to catch MOFFIE on a big screen near you!
