Cape Town – Tom Cruise is reportedly the reason why Top Gun: Maverick's release date has been pushed back a year.
According to The Sun the 56-year-old actor wants to learn to fly fighter jets so that the action sequences can be as realistic as possible.
Tom, who has a license to fly planes, isn’t qualified to fly fighter jets and is now learning to do so.
The Mummy actor is well-known for performing his own stunts. For the movie American Made, in which he plays a pilot, he did all his own flying.
He also halted production of filming for the Mission: Impossible Fallout when he broke his ankle during a stunt. (Read more here)

Meanwhile Cruise and Jennifer Connelly were pictured filming motorbike scenes for the movie on Friday in Los Angeles.
Jennifer will play his character's love interest in the film.
In the picture, obtained by People magazine, he is wearing his iconic bomber jacket, jeans and aviator sunglasses.
