Mmabatho Montsho’s film 'The Award Ceremony' wins international award

Filmmaker and actress, Mmabatho Montsho has flown the South African flag high after winning an award at the Worldwide Women’s Film Festival which was recently held in Arizona, USA.

Her film, The Award Ceremony, which according to the writer is about broken shoes, took home the award for Best Short Film at the prestigious event. The awards aim to educate, support, and empower women in filmmaking while shining a light on women's stories told by women, and other diverse experiences across all genders.

The movie was nominated last year and Mmabatho couldn’t be prouder of winning the award.

"Achebe says stories give surviving meaning. Our story about broken shoes won BEST SHORT FILM @WWFilmFestival 2020 in Arizona, USA this Sunday. Thank you for all the well wishes when it was selected in competition. Cast and crew, our craft speaks for itself. Great work team," she wrote on her Twitter page.

Many congratulatory messages came pouring in, with tweeps saying they couldn’t wait to see the film.
