Cape Town – Buzzworthy South African indie film, Moffie had a glitzy photocall at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
The Afrikaans and English-language movie by filmmaker Oliver Hermanus centres on a young conscript in Apartheid-era South Africa and has been nominated for this year's Queer Lion Award at the renowned European film festival.
The Queer Lion is awarded to the "Best Movie with LGBT Themes & Queer Culture" among those presented during the event.
The photocall took place ahead of the festival premiere of the ground-breaking cinematic work which will also take place on Wednesday in the late afternoon.
The film is based on the novel by André-Carl van der Merwe and will go on to show at the London Film Festival, where it is nominated in the best film category.
Oliver's previous movies include Skoonheid (Beauty) and The Endless River, which was the first South African film selected for Venice's Competition.
