Cape Town - It’s been just a week since Kensington Palace confirmed that Meghan (37), the Duchess of Sussex, is pregnant and the baby is expected in autumn 2019 (in the British spring).

Now Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the former actress, has spoken out now for the first time since the announcement.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the 74-year-old said the news of Meghan’s pregnancy has filled him with love and joy.

“The first thing I thought about [when I heard] was holding Meghan in my arms as a new-born 37 years ago,” he said.

“I thought, ‘My baby’s having a baby.’ It was a very proud moment.”

Thomas says he found out about the news on the radio as he was waiting in line to cross the U.S-Mexican border, People writes.

The retired television lighting director then reminisced about the day Meghan was born and revealed that the duchess’ mom, Doria Ragland (62), had had a Caesarean section delivery.

“It was in the middle of the night when Meghan was born by Caesarean section. Doria was sleeping and so I was the first person in the world to hold Meghan.

“When they handed her to me and I held her in my arms for the first time, it was love at first sight. She was the most beautiful baby.”
