Cape Town – Stepping away from royal tradition, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding portraits appear to be less formal and stiff from previous years.

A mere two days after the royal nuptials, three wedding portraits were released that saw the newlyweds posing with their families, the page boys and bridesmaids as well as a candid shot between the happy couple.

In an interview with BBC, photographer Alexi Lubomirski shared what it was like to once again photograph the royal couple.

“After we did the set-up shots we all went to the reception and if the couple were going to have any energy after that, we were going to go into the rose garden and just take some intimate quick shots.

“So, eventually we went out there and we had about three-and-a-half minutes to take some pictures and it was just one of those magical moments.”

Lubomirski went on to share the story behind the beautiful black and white shot of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“I said, ‘Listen, just before you go in let’s sit down on these stairs,’ and she just slumped in between his legs. And there was this moment where they were just laughing because they were joking about how they were exhausted and finally it’s all over and they just looked at each other and they were just laughing. It was just this beautiful moment.”

The celebrity photographer added that it wasn’t until he got back to his hotel and looked at the photo that he realised what an amazing shot it turned out to be.
