Cape Town - Queen Elizabeth’s annual Buckingham Palace garden party provided Her Majesty with a reunion 70 years in the making.
The 93-year-old British monarch reconnected with Margaret Baxter (96), a guest she previously met in the '40s when she and wartime prime minister Winston Churchill visited Portsmouth before she ascended the throne, Metro UK reports.
The official royal family Twitter account managed to dig up a photo of Elizabeth and Margaret from the first time they crossed paths, People reports.
Dressed in her Auxiliary Territorial Service uniform, Margaret can be seen on the far left, with the queen in the foreground on the right.
"Today Mrs Margaret Baxter (far left) was presented to Her Majesty, during which they reminisced about their first meeting, when the then Princess Elizabeth visited Portsmouth in 1940s," the then-and-now photos were captioned on the social media site.

Margaret is one of 30 000 guests who will attend one of the queen’s garden parties this year. Garden parties are a royal tradition dating back to the 1860s, having started during Queen Victoria’s reign.
"[Garden parties] are an important way for the queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community," the Royal Family website explains.
Each summer Her Majesty hosts three parties in the grounds of Buckingham Palace and is usually joined by her husband, Prince Philip (97), and other members of the royal family, honey.nine reports.
This year is no different, with some of the queen’s grandchildren, including Prince William (36) and his wife, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge (37), Prince Harry (34) and Princesses Beatrice (30) and Eugenie (29), all making an appearance.
