Prince Philip will turn 99 on 10 June, but has expressed he wants to have a "simple" celebration this year.

The Duke of Edinburgh is staying at Windsor Castle with the queen amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the two have quite enjoyed sharing more dinners together as of late, a source recently shared.

Now, to mark his birthday in the coming week, Their Royal Highnesses are planning to have a small lunch – and other members of the royal family will likely video call Prince Philip to wish him, reports Express.

The duke wants a "low-key" and "no fuss" birthday.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace also revealed the queen's official birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour, will go ahead, despite being initially cancelled amid Covid-19 concerns.

"There will be a small, brief military ceremony at Windsor Castle to mark The Queen's official birthday," they told People, and confirmed the military salute will take place on 13 June at Windsor Castle.
