Cape Town - Prince Charles has made climate change his mission – much like Greta Thunberg.
The Prince of Wales recently met with the teen climate activist and revealing that he doesn’t want his grandchildren to accuse him of not doing enough to save the planet.
While delivering a keynote address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Charles (71) urged governments and businesses to aid the private sector in leading the “world out of approaching catastrophe”, the Daily Mail reports.
He added that “we can’t waste any more time”.
The heir to the British throne, who’s well-known for his environmental campaigning, was pictured meeting and shaking hands with the 17-year-old Swedish environmental activist following his address.
In an interview following the meeting, Charles sang Greta’s praises, Entertainment Tonight reports.
“Well she’s remarkable. She represents one of the main reasons why I’ve been trying to make all this effort all these years,” he said.
“Because as I said I didn’t want my grandchildren to accuse me of not doing something about this in time.
“And of course there they are, all her generation, almost my grandchildren if you know what I mean, all desperate because not nearly enough has happened. We’ve left it so late.”
The grandfather of four travelled from St Gallen in Switzerland to Davos in a fully electric Jaguar I-Pace rather than using a fuel-powered helicopter, Metro reports.
The royal ensured his commitment to conservation by using his speech to outline plans to launch a new Sustainable Markets Initiative.
He also mentioned practical actions to drive the approach, including identifying game-changers and barriers to transition and investing in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and maths).
