Cape Town – Lara Spencer received considerable backlash last week after mocking the future king of England.

The Good Morning America host reported on Prince George's Thomas's Battersea curriculum and laughed when she heard the prince was also taking ballet lessons. On Prince William saying his son absolutely loves dancing, Lara said, "I have news for Prince William – we'll see how long that lasts."

Lara was slammed for her insensitive comments, while many felt she was shaming the 6-year-old royal for something boys already endure a lot of bullying for. Actress and dancer, Julianne Hough recently commented on the matter though, saying she doesn't think her friend's comments were necessarily as "malicious" as everyone's saying it is. Instead, she referred to the incident as "unfortunate".

Julianne, who grew up in a family where everyone, including her brother, was a dancer, told ET, "I think that that comment sparked an amazing resurgence and passion for dancers to have a voice. You know, dancers have always been in the background and so for those comments to be made, it gave dancers a voice to show the dedication, the hard work, and the perseverance that it takes to become a dancer. And then I also think it gave humanity and the world and the country an opportunity to also let somebody apologise for something and see it for what it is, versus saying that's it and I'm going to forever think of you that way.

"Everything happens for a reason," she said.

The talk show host has since apologised for her comments writing on Instagram, "From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT.

"I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it."
