Before Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shifted their focus to sharing resources and information about the coronavirus.
On their then active Instagram account, they posted a series of images – some shared good hygiene practises, while others focused on encouraging people to talk to someone if they feel anxious and alone.
Since they closed their Instagram account though, Harry and Meghan have been quietly working behind the scenes while settling in Los Angeles and gearing up to launch their new organisation, Archewell.
Most recently, Harry spoke to parents and carers of children with complex health needs amid the pandemic, while the couple also donated funds towards Covid-19 relief.
According to People, the couple donated over $112 000 (around R2 million) that was generated from their royal wedding broadcast to the charity, Feeding Britain. The publication explains that it was decided any excess profits from the broadcast, which saw 1.9 billion people tune in, would be donated to a charity of the couple’s choice.
It was a no-brainer for Harry and Meghan who have seen the work Feeding Britain has done, and are close to the president of the organisation, Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who also conducted Meghan’s baptism and officiated the couple’s wedding.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan commented, "The Duke and Duchess were able to speak to the Archbishop recently, and were moved to hear all about the work Feeding Britain was doing to support people during Covid-19.
"They have particularly fond memories of their visit to the citizens’ supermarket in Birkenhead, especially the generosity and compassion of everyone working there to help others. They are delighted to be able to ensure this money is donated to such a great cause."
