Cape Town – American president Donald Trump has attempted to clarify comments that he made allegedly made about the Duchess of Sussex.

Donald made the clarification about Meghan in an interview with Piers Morgan on Wednesday.

All the royal drama started when - ahead of the politician's three-day trip to the United Kingdom - he was asked about comments Meghan made about him before she married Harry.

Meghan called Trump "divisive" and "misogynistic" in an episode of The Night Show with Larry Wilmore in May 2016, before the president was elected.

Speaking to The Sun about Meghan's utterances Donald allegedly said: "I didn't know she was nasty."

The comment by former reality star about Meghan has led to some negative feedback and while speaking to Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain (which was his only UK TV interview while on his state visit) the forty-fifth president of The United States attempted to clarify his remark saying.

Donald explained: "They said some of the things that she said and It's actually on tape. And I said: 'Well, I didn't know she was nasty'. I wasn't referring to she's nasty. I said she was nasty about me. And essentially I didn't know she was nasty about me."

The show will air from 06:00 on ITV on Wednesday.

Meghan has not met Donald on his state visit because she is on maternity leave after having given birth to her first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Prince Harry, her husband, met Donald on Monday at Buckingham Palace.
