Cape Town - Africa has always held a special place in Prince Harry’s heart – he’s even called it his “second home”.
The Duke of Sussex has visited the continent on several occasions, the first time in 1997 when he joined his father Prince Charles on a visit to a village in KwaZulu-Natal.
Over the years Harry has made both public and private trips to South Africa and helped with conservation work, particularly with rhinos and elephants, PEOPLE reports.
He’s also known for his charity work in Lesotho, where he co-founded a charity in 2006 that supports people affected by HIV/Aids in Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi.
Prince Harry’s love affair with Africa includes the special moment he and Meghan visited Botswana early on in their relationship after just two dates in London.
“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” Harry said after the couple’s engagement.
“So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”
The couple returned in 2017 to celebrate Meghan’s 36th birthday, Hello! Magazine reports.
The Duke of Sussex even chose a diamond from Botswana as the centrepiece of Meghan’s engagement ring.
The Sussexes arrive in Cape Town on 23 September and their first stop will be a local township.
