'Star Wars' actor Billy Dee Williams comes out as gender fluid

Cape Town – In a recent interview with Esquire, Star Wars actor Billy Dee Williams came out as gender fluid.

"I never tried to be anything except myself," the actor famous for his role as Lando Calrissian in the franchise told the magazine’s Matt Miller.

"I think of myself as a relatively colourful character," he continued, "who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.

"You see I say 'himself' and 'herself' because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself."

The 82-year-old will be reprising his role in the upcoming film in the saga and the last of the trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will be released in SA cinemas on 20 December.
